JP Morgan Downgrades DaVita

On Monday, October 9,  JP Morgan downgraded DaVita Inc. stock to “underweight” from its former “neutral” ranking.  The move resulting in a 10 percent drop in DaVita shares in Monday trading.

JP Morgan cited concerns over DaVita’s business dealings with the American Kidney Fund.  One of the largest national, nonprofit foundations, the American Kidney Fund (AKF), helps support kidney dialysis patients with  insurance premium subsidies.  A controversy has arisen that speculates that the AKF is steering clients to commercial insurers rather than government programs  resulting in higher payments to kidney dialysis providers like DaVita.
