CMS Adds Three Rural Colorado Hospitals to Demonstration Program

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced the list of hospitals to participate in the second phase of the Rural Community Hospital Demonstration Program.  The newly selected rural hospitals are Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose, Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, and St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco.  They join previously participating Colorado hospitals:  Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, and Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs.

According to the CMS directive, the demonstration program is designed to test the “feasibility and advisability of establishing rural community hospitals to furnish covered inpatient hospital services to Medicare beneficiaries.”  The hospitals selected must have fewer than 51 acute care inpatient beds, provide 24-7 emergency care, and not designated or eligible to be designated a “Critical Access Hospital”.
