Amazon and Cerner to Partner in the Cloud

Sources including CNBC are reporting that Amazon Web Services are close to finalizing a partnership with Kansas City-based health IT giant Cerner Corp..  The project will connect Amazon’s cloud-based programs to Cerner’s population health product, HealtheIntent.  Amazon anticipates the healthcare industry will in time move more fully toward cloud-based health records storage.

In the late spring of this year,the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded a contract to Cerner Corp. to develop the department’s next generation electronic health records system. Cerner currently holds a 10-year, $4.3 billion Department of Defence EHR contract, MHS Genesis.
