HHS Secretary Confirmed by Senate

Alex Azar returns to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as its Secretary.   He replaces former HHS Secretary Dr. Tom Price who left the office in late September 2017 following allegations of misuse of taxpayer money related to excessive air travel expenditures.

Azar last served HHS under President George W. Bush as legal counsel and deputy secretary.  He is expected to concentrate his efforts on reshaping components of the Affordable Care Act and modifying Medicare and Medicaid.
