Healthgrades Out with Its Best Hospitals List

Denver-based Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information on physicians and hospitals, has released its 2018 list of “America’s 50 and 100 Best Hospitals”.  Five Colorado hospitals were identified among the nations best based on clinical quality outcomes over a multi-year time period.  Recognized among the the best were:  Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, and University of Colorado Hospital – Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion in Aurora.

Two of the five were identified among the nation’s top 50 hospitals:  Lutheran Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital.  The 2018 listing is two shy of last year’s seven recognized hospitals.

Hospitals fall into one of two categories based on the number of consecutive years they’ve been identified for providing overall clinical excellence across a broad range of conditions and procedures. Hospitals among the 100 Best (top 2%) have been recognized consecutively for at least the last three years, while the 50 Best (top 1%) have been recognized for at least six consecutive years. Healthgrades used Medicare inpatient data on 32 health conditions and procedures for its evaluations.
