FTC Decision on Optum/DaVita Medical Group Delayed

The FTC has requested additional information from UnitedHealth’s Optum and DaVita Medical Group before a decision is rendered on their acquisition request.  This will extend the waiting period by 30 days after the information is received by the FTC.

In December of 2017, Optum announced plans to acquire the medical group division of DaVita for $4.9 billion in cash.  The deal would add close to 300 medical clinics, 35 urgent care centers, and 6 outpatient surgery centers  in five states including Colorado to the Optum unit of UnitedHealth.  DaVita Medical Group currently serves 1.7 million patients per year.
