Record Number of Physicians Now Certified in Obesity Medicine

In the first quarter of 2018, the American Board of Obesity Medicine, headquartered in Denver, has increased the number of board certified obesity medicine physicians by more than 28 percent.   A record 580 physicians passed the board certification testing and now have the specialized knowledge and training to deal with this rapidly growing health issue.  In total, in excess of 2650 physicians in Canada and the U.S. are board certified.

It is estimated that close to 40 percent of adults and 20 percent of youth are considered obese, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Although ranked nationally as the least obese state, Colorado has still witnessed an alarming rise in the rate of obesity among its young people.
