Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, JPMorgan Chase Announce New Health Venture CEO

The consortium of Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase has announce the selection of Dr. Atul Gawande as the founding chief executive of their newly formed health care enterprise.  Gawande is currently a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and a professor at both the medical and public health schools at Harvard.  He is a staff writer at The New Yorker and author of four well received books including Being Mortal and The Checklist Manifesto.

The new health care enterprise is tasked with coming up with ways to address health care costs for the companies’ employees.  It is hoped that successes can incubate changes for the entire U.S. health care system.

Headquarters for the yet to be named organization will be based in Boston and Dr. Gawande will begin his service on July 9.
