IN MEMORIAM: Dr. Harvey Phelps

Dr. Harvey Phelps, physician and politician serving Pueblo, passed away on June 22 just one week shy of his 96th birthday.

Phelps was an active physician, Democratic politician and medical researcher.  He served two terms in the Colorado State Senate, as well as a a term on the University of Colorado Board of Regents.

With his research efforts on emphysema, he was able to demonstrate that black lung disease was a work related disability and help coal miners prove their lawsuit claims.   Phelps was also instrumental in establishing the family practice residency program at St. Mary-Corwin.
