University of Colorado Cancer Center Names New Leader

The University of Colorado has announced the promotion of  Dr. Richard Schulick as the next director of the University of Colorado Cancer Center.  The Center is a consortium of three universities and three teaching hospitals and is the only National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center in Colorado.  In addition to the Anschutz Medical Campus and the UC Boulder campus, the consortium includes Colorado State University, UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health System.

Dr. Schulick will oversee a five year, $100 million investment to expand the center’s research, integrate the research with clinical programs and improve quality of life factors for its patients.

Dr. Schulick has been with the University of Colorado School of Medicine since 2012 and currently is the chair of the surgery department, a position he will continue to hold.   He follows Dr. Dan Theodorescu, who in July will become the director of the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.
