Funding for Planned Parenthood Continues…for Now

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced recipients of Title X family planning grants.   Thirteen Planned Parenthood affiliates were among the 96 organizations identified as grant recipients.  The grants are scheduled to be distributed this month.

HHS is in the process of revamping the Title X program.   In its final rule still to be announced, HHS intends to ban Title X recipients from referring clients for abortions and also lift the requirement to counsel women on abortion as a possible option to deal with a pregnancy.  The HHS final rule could skirt Congressional approval for a change in the law.
