Bipartisan Bill to Tackle Overpricing and Drug Rebates

Two key members of the Senate Finance Committee have joined forces to introduce a bill that will curb drug companies from using tactics designed to overcharge taxpayers for Medicaid rebates.  Incoming chairman of the committee, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and ranking member of the committee, Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) are both committed to addressing the overpricing of drugs and rebate fraud issue.

The bill would give power to the HHS to reclassify a drug and recoup any rebates that have been allowed if the manufacture intentionally incorrectly classifies a drug for economic benefit.

Drug manufacturers have been apprehensive about Senator Grassley’s new role as head of the Senate Finance Committee.  He is know for bipartisanship and a willingness to investigate and tackle issues surrounding overpricing by drug companies and other manufacturers.
