Drug Manufacturers Bump Up Prices in New Year

In the U.S., more than 250 prescription drugs saw a price hike as of the first of the year.   The number of drugs with a higher price tag was down approximately a third from the 400 prescription with an increase at the beginning of  2018.  Nevertheless,  the U.S.  still holds the unenviable designation as the world’s most expensive pharmaceutical market.  Market competition dictates pricing in the U.S., while governments in other countries either directly or indirectly control the costs.

With more price increases expected before the end of the month, the White house has made holding down drug pricing  a priority.  Health and Human Services has a variety of proposals in the works to address the issue.
