
Englewood-based Catholic Health Initiatives and San Francisco-based Dignity Health have completed their merger effective February 1. To be known as “CommonSpirit, the combined hospital systems will be second by a mere 9 facilities to St. Louis-based Ascension in size and scope in the not-for-profit hospital world. All three are Catholic health systems.
CommonSpirit will be based in Chicago because of the city’s central location and accessibility. It will not change the names of local hospitals and facilities in the communities where they are located as a result of the merger.
CommonSpirit unites more than 700 care sites and 142 hospitals in 21 states creating the largest not-for-profit hospital company by revenue ($28 billion) in the nation.
