Lyft Eyes Medicare Advantage as Health Care Focal Point

The decision to allow Medicare Advantage plans the opportunity to offer supplemental benefits to their insures in 2019 has focused Lyft on expanding its ride-hailing services into this new market.  Lyft has tested the concept with a partnership with CareMore, an Anthem subsidiary.  Since 2016, Lyft has been a transportation option for CareMore’s medicare advantage members.

Results have been encouraging.  Beneficiaries have found their ride costs have gone down by 39 percent and their wait time by 40 percent.  CareMore has received such a positive response to the program that it currently books 90 percent of its non-emergency transportation needs through Lyft.

Lyft, in turn, has designed its health care platform with seniors in mind.  One such design feature is the ability of a provider or insurer to call on behalf of the MA member for a ride.
