Stakeholder’s Meetings for State Insurance Option Announced

The Division of Insurance and the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing have scheduled the initial stakeholder meetings to discuss details of a State sponsored option for health care coverage.  The two meetings are:  1.  Wednesday, May 29  – 10:30am to Noon – HCPF Offices 1570 Grant Street in the Hibiscus Conference Room on the first floor.    2.  Thursday, June 13  –  9:00am to 10:30am  –  Division of Insurance Offices 1560 Broadway (room to be determined).   RSVP FOR STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS at the link below.

The State Insurance Option exploratory bill, HB 19-1004, directs the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing and the Department of Regulatory Agencies to deliver a proposal in November.   The plan would assess costs, funding sources, necessary federal permissions and funding, consumer eligibility and who in government would run the program.   It must also contain a detailed description of a state option and must identify the most effective implementation of that option based on affordability to consumers at different income levels, administrative and financial burden to the state, ease of implementation, and likelihood of success in meeting the objectives described in the bill. The proposal must also identify any necessary changes to state law to implement the proposal.
