U.S. Senate Package of Health Care Bills – What’s Inside

Leaders of the Senate health committee (HELP) released a bipartisan package of healthcare bills on May 23 that address a wide-range of issues facing the industry.  The package addresses surprise medical billing, high prescription drug costs, price transparency, patient data access, and the establishment of policies to address the social determinants of health.  Although it represents a bipartisan package, it faces a harshly divided Congress.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R) and Committee Member Senator Ron Wyden (D) are working on a separate bipartisan health care package to address the high cost of prescription drugs.  It is suggested that the two packages could be combined a brought before the U.S. Senate for review in July.  The HELP Committee is accepting public comment on the discussion draft until 5 p.m. on June 5, 2019.
